EU-Mercosur agri-food policy analysis

Objectives

Assessment and comparison of direct and indirect agriculture and agri-food policies in the context of production, consumption and trade environments, between the Mercosur and EU (especially Mediterranean) regions. In addition, identify and analyse synergies and overlaps between the regions’ policies

Description of work

• Develop appropriate methodology for the comparison: What is especially emphasized is the need to develop an approach to analyse the appropriate and actual use/application of the policies in the countries (especially in the Mercosur).
• Help with design of analytical data base placed at third party CEPAL (partner IICA). Most of this work is led by WP 2.
• Collection of Mercosur policies in individual countries, executed by in-country IICA specialists, coordinated by the IICA-Montevideo office. Furthermore, policy information will be mined sourced CEPAL, IICA, FAO-rlc, IDB and other regional bodies.
• Collection of EU policies, documents and updates, which will require relatively little in-country data collection activities. Most infos to be had from EU bodies (Official Journal). This will be conducted in close collaboration with the DGs involved.
• Perform comparison and analysis and appropriate reporting. Besides on analysis, additional emphasis will be placed on the packaging of the final products – this will be supported by the WP 8 team.
